Star Sport Podcast Nominated for a National Award

The Star Sport Podcast, which aims to share the excitement of West Cork sports, is gaining recognition as it has been nominated for a Local Ireland Media Award. Since its launch in February 2019 and with the support of Access Credit Union, the podcast has delivered an impressive 242 episodes, covering a wide range of sports news and events, both local and national, with a West Cork perspective. The latest episode features a spotlight on Jack Crowley, a rising star from Bandon Rugby Club who has earned the distinction of becoming the first West Cork native to represent at a Rugby World Cup.

The Star Sport Podcast has been selected as a finalist in the Best Use of Digital category for the upcoming Local Ireland Media Awards. It will be competing against The Anglo-Celt, the Connaught Telegraph, and the Meath Chronicle for this prestigious honor.

Kieran McCarthy, the Star Sport editor, expressed his excitement at the podcast’s nomination for this national award. He highlighted the podcast’s dedication to providing over 240 weekly episodes since its launch in 2019, aimed at keeping West Cork sports enthusiasts informed and entertained. The podcast consistently spotlights local sports heroes from West Cork, ensuring their achievements are prominently featured.

The Southern Star has received recognition by being shortlisted for five different categories in the Local Ireland Media Awards. These categories include:

  2. Best News Series (Campaign to save Gougane Barra, by Kieran O’Mahony)
  3. Best Supplement (Death of a Legend)
  4. Best Front Page (Trio of Storms)

Local Ireland, the organization representing 32 local newspapers, their websites, and social media platforms across Ireland, is responsible for these awards. The winners will be unveiled during a gala event at Bloomfield House Hotel in Mullingar on Thursday, September 21st.
